“The Artist’s Way” diary: week 11

Artist’s Date

I went to “Arbour”, an exhibition by local artist John Pratt, at the Australian National Botanic Gardens.

Reflections

The theme of Week 11 is “Recovering a Sense of Autonomy”.

One of the tasks in this chapter is to list ways that we expect to change as we continue our creative practice.

Change can feel uncomfortable even when the changes are positive. It’s tempting to envisage a future in which we’re just the same as we were except more creative and productive. But – as the tasks in previous chapter have suggested – we may need to establish new rules, give up some habits and commit to lots of action if we really want to create the work for a big dream. There may also be changes in our awareness and attention, and in how other people see us.

Expecting change is a step towards accepting and adjusting to it.
