“The Artist’s Way” diary: week 6

Artist’s date

I went on a walk to a place I’ve haven’t been to before: across a bridge to a very small island in Yerrabi Pond, then further north-east to the Forde local shopping centre.

Reflections

The theme of Week 6 is “Recovering a Sense of Abundance”.

One of the tasks for this week is about accepting flow.

An experience that some people encounter is finally managing to set aside time for a creative project and then finding themselves unable to achieve much (this has definitely happened to me). I’ve seen lots of suggestions for ways to address this, such as setting timers for short bursts of work, or starting with some free-writing or doodling.

I think this task might be referring to a roughly opposite situation: if we work through the exercises in this book work, then perhaps creative flow will arrive more easily, but then we’ll need to make time and space to use it. Change – even positive change – can feel strange, and there may be a temptation to return to our usual routines.
