Artist’s date
I went to see “Temple” at National Film and Sound Archive – it’s an immersive film by Leila Jeffreys and Melvin J. Montalban, consisting of slow-motion, close-up footage of Australian parrots near water. (I ended up seeing this twice, first by myself and then with friends. Only the first visit counts as an artist’s date, though.)
Reflections
The theme of Week 4 is “Recovering a Sense of Integrity”.
One of the tasks prompts us to consider whether there is a payoff to staying creatively blocked. This could be a useful question to ask whenever we decide we want to make change but haven’t been able to do it yet.
Perhaps it’s more comfortable to remain in a state of dreaming about future possibilities – this could be linked to perfectionism or self-doubt.
Perhaps some distractions and habits that we think of as bad still offer something positive that we’re not fully aware of. In this case, we may need to quit the habit and limit the distraction but also find some way of getting some of the benefits… although perhaps in a carefully controlled way.
