Roll

Here’s a list of some websites I visit and podcasts I listen to regularly, grouped (roughly) by topic:

Creativity

Austin Kleon – the personal site of the author of Show your Work!, Keep Going and other books

Lateral Action – advice from the creative coach and poet, Mark McGuinness

The Creative Independent – interviews with working artists and guides containing practical advice

Herbert Lui – a blog with many posts about creativity, by the author of Creative Doing

Language and Literature

Language Hat – Steve Dodson posts daily about words, language and linguistics, and there’s a lively, fascinating comment section

Wuthering Expectations – a reading journal by Amateur Reader (Tom)

Mathematics

The blog of John D. Cook Consulting includes posts on mathematics and many related topics

ThatsMaths – a series of articles aiming to demystify mathematics and show the power of the subject

Personal development

zen habits – Leo Babauta’s advice on finding simplicity and mindfulness

Ness Labs – Anne-Laure Le Cunff writes about creative thinking, mindful productivity, metacognition and tiny experiments

TraderFeed – perhaps an unusual choice, because I’m not a trader and I don’t have much interest in trading. But much of the advice can be applied (sometimes with a bit of lateral thinking) to other aspects of personal development – it may be of particular interest to people who need to make lots of decisions and are seeking calm focus.

What Works – articles by Tara McMullin about work, life and creating value in the world

Tabletop roleplaying

Panda’s Talking Games – Phil Vecchione and Senda Linaugh answer listener questions about playing, running, and designing tabletop roleplaying games

Dice Exploder – Sam Dunnewold and cohosts discuss tabletop roleplaying mechanics in depth

Gnome Stew – articles with advice on playing, running, and making games

RPGnet – a carefully moderated discussion forum with a long history and a wealth of information
